Herculian Prince & Speed Gifted Early Favourites For 2010 The Metropolitan

August 30th, 2010

Ninety-eight horses have been nominated for the $350,000 Group One The Metropolitan (2400m), which is to take to the Randwick Racecourse on Epsom Day, October 2.

Ladbrokes.com.au has already opened the market for the 2010 The Metropolitan, which sees Herculian Prince soar to the top spot along with Speed Gifted, both of which are at $10.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Herculian Prince is on target for big things this spring, also being nominated for the feature spring cups. The five-year-old had a strong spring preparation, and had his first-up jump on August 21 in the Listed Show County Quality (1200m).

The Yamanin Vital gelding ran ninth to Kenny’s World, and is gearing up to the longer distance in his lead up to the 2010 The Metropolitan.

The Lee Freedman-trained Speed Gifted is a strong contender for the win according to punters at Ladbrokes.com.au.

The British-bred gelding’s last jump was in the $2.25 million Group One The BMW (2400m) where he finished second-last to Littorio.

Freedman has revealed the defending Metropolitan champion will jump in the $400,000 Group Two Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on September 4 as his first-up jump this spring.

John Thompson-trained Count Encosta and the Waterhouse-trained Descarado make up the second betting line, both sitting on $11 with Ladbrokes.com.au.

The reedman-trained Fanjura had a solid Autumn campaign, claiming the honours in the $125,000 Group Three Easter Cup (2000m). The Marju gelding is at $12 in the early market odds, equal to Michael Moroney’s Monaco Consul.

Winner of the $175,000 Group Two Alister Clark Stakes (1600m) Linton has rewarding odds of $14, while recent winner of the $150,000 Group Two Warwick Stakes (1400m) Metal Bender could be a strong punt at $15 with Ladbrokes.com.au.

Remember to get in on the early market betting options, as they are by far the most lucrative. As we get closer to the jump, the odds will only shorten, so head to Ladbrokes.com.au today!
