2010 The Metropolitan Field & Preview – Herculian Prince Back for Revenge

September 29th, 2010

Gai Waterhouse’s beaten Colin Stephen Quality Handicap favourite Herculian Prince is back to seek revenge this Saturday lining up in the $400,000 Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick’s Epsom Handicap Day.

Five-year-old Yamanin Vital gelding Herculian Prince started as the hot $1.40 favourite in the Colin Stephen last Saturday but faded to finish dead last in a result that shocked the punters.

Despite the surprise loss, Herculian Prince (barrier six) is still at the top of odds for the 2010 The Metropolitan, which has drawn a final field of 13 quality gallopers.

The two horses that beat Herculian Prince and ran the quinella in the Colin Stephen were the Kevin Moses-trained duo No Wine No Song and Get Up Jude.

Nine-year-old No Wine No Song has come up trumps in the barrier draw with gate one making them an ideal pick, while stablemate Get Up Jude will jump out wider from barrier seven with Tim Clark aboard.

There are also a number of other interesting runners in the 2010 The Metropolitan that could cause an upset on Saturday including John Thompson’s Saint Encosta (barrier five), the Anthony Cummings-trained Landlocked (barrier two) and in-form Danasinga seven-year-old Crabs* (barrier eight).

Other highlights on the Randwick card for Saturday are the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) lead by Neeson and Trusting, the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) where classy fillies More Strawberries and Parables will face off, and the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) featuring boom three-year-olds Retrieve and Giresun.

Leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au are set to open their odds on The Metropolitan shortly so stay tuned for our betting preview and tips, and in the meantime sign up with Sportsbet to ensure you get in on the action!
