The Group 1 The Metropolitan is due to run at Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday October 5, 2013.
The race is worth $400,000 in prize money and is run over a distance of 2,400 metres.
The 2013 The Metropolitan will take place under open handicap conditions and is open to horses aged three-years-old and upwards.
Scheduled to run as part of Epsom Handicap Day, the race shares its program with the Group 1 Epsom Handicap, Group 1 Flight Stakes, Group 2 Premiere Stakes, Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes, Group 3 Craven Plate, Listed Dulcify Quality Handicap, Listed Breeders’ Plate and Listed Gimcrack Stakes.
Hathras is on track to run in the 2013 The Metropolitan this spring carnival.
The five-year-old has won three of his eight race starts and has earned more than $129,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.
Hathras has never before won a Black Type race, however, trainer Kris Lees is confident that the time has come for the galloper to show his true ability.
“He has come back in good shape,” Lees told TVN.
“I would say he is a little more dour this time, he is settling a lot better.”
Lees’ high expectations are evident, with Hathras being nominated for both the 2013 Cox Plate and the 2013 Caulfield Cup this October.
