September 30th, 2014

Touted as a serious contender in major staying events over the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival but yet to hit his straps, trainer Chris Waller remains confident of success for Our Voodoo Prince ahead of this weekend’s Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap (2400m) at Royal Randwick.

Securing six wins and seven minor places from just 23 competitive starts so far, Our Voodoo Prince began his racing career under the guidance of leading British trainer Ed Dunlop before transferring to the care of Waller at the conclusion of his 2013 preparation.

Unable to yet make an impact over three competitive starts this time in, Waller confirmed he has floated the Kingmambo gelding back to his Rosehill stables in order to chase Caulfield Cup qualification and success in the 2014 The Metropolitan.

“He has been a bit disappointing and hasn’t come up to the standard of a Caulfield Cup path,” Waller told AAP.

“We have brought him home and we’ll have a look at how he goes on Saturday.

“He has a high profile because of his breeding which might be a bit unfair.”

Having nominated several leading chances for the 2014 Metropolitan, Junoob arguably offers Waller the greatest chance of success in current form and has the leading trainer confident of securing a maiden Group 1.

“This is Junoob’s chance to get a Group One,” Waller added.

“Getting back on a firm track he showed what he can do.”

Immediately stamping his claims as one to watch over his maiden Australian preparation through autumn, Our Voodoo Prince secured a perfect record of three wins from as many starts, capped by a dominant performance in the Group 3 Easter Cup (2000m) at Caulfield on April 19th.

Finishing ninth in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) first-up, third in a minor over 1600m on September 6th and a forgettable eighth in the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes (2000m) last time out on September 20th, Our Voodoo Prince is currently available at generous odds of $13 for success in The Metropolitan; sharing the sixth line of betting with Kingdoms and Opinion at leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
