Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller has dominated the 2016 Metropolitan Handicap field; confirming a total of six runners including both Who Shot Thebarman and Antonio Giuseppe.

A strong and consistent performer for Waller throughout his entire racing career since arriving in Australia, Who Shot Thebarman returned to racing this time for sixth in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) before placing fifth in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m).

Having run on for second in the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) last time out, the Yamanin Vital gelding will be partnered by leading hoop Hugh Bowman from the ideal barrier 8.

Antonio Giuseppe is something of an unknown quantity in The Metropolitan field, but the four-year-old is weighted well and drawn ideally in barrier 5, with Glen Boss in the saddle.

Placing fifth in the Hyland Race Colours BM72 (1250m) upon debuting in Australia on July 27th, the Shocking gelding has since won four-consecutive races, including a dominant three-length triumph in the #TheRaces BM78 (2000m) last weekend.

Godolphin will also launch a multi-pronged attack after trainer John O’Shea confirmed both reigning champion Magic Hurricane (barrier 3) and Allergic (barrier 2) in The Metropolitan field.

Magic Hurricane was a revelation for Godolphin upon debuting in Australia last spring; winning the Listed Premier’s Cup (1800m) and running second in the Hill Stakes before his triumph in The Metropolitan.

Failing to make much of an impact in autumn, the Hurricane Run gelding has placed third in the Premier’s Cup and fourth in the Hill Stakes most recently.

Allergic has been a strong performer for Godolphin through his whole career, but undoubtedly stamped himself as one to watch when third behind Delicacy and Werther in the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m) last year.

Returning to winning form in the Premier’s Cup Prelude (1800m) second-up this time, Allergic ran fifth in the Premier’s Cup and third in the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) before taking out the Group 3 Queen’s Cup (2400m) last weekend.

Grand Marshal will leave from the rails draw in The Metropolitan 2016, while Sense Of Occasion will have to overcome the outside gate on Saturday.
